CSSC (Tianjin) Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. is an important member of Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Corporation's "one headquarters, four bases" strategic plan. It will focus on the construction of large ships. According to Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Corporation's "14th Five-Year Plan", CSSC Tianjin Company will take bulk carriers, container ships, and tankers as its main product development directions, and build itself into an excellent shipbuilding enterprise with strong cost control capabilities, advanced management models, and profitability.

According to International Ship Network, the predecessor of CSSC (Tianjin) Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. is Tianjin Xingang Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Co., Ltd., referred to as "GANGCHUAN Heavy Industry". It is located in Tianjin Port Economic Zone, covering an area of 3.6 square kilometers, with a wharf and coastline of 4 kilometers. Its annual shipbuilding capacity reaches 2 million tons, and its ship repair capacity reaches 220 ships. It has 500,000-ton and 300,000-ton shipbuilding docks, an 800-ton gantry crane, and large factory buildings. It is the largest and internationally renowned shipbuilding and repair base in North China.

Due to market downturn and various reasons such as management, in 2016, Xingang Shipbuilding Heavy Industry was included in the list of enterprises under the supervision of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, and the goal of the work to resolve difficulties was for Gangchuan Heavy Industry to complete the disposal of inefficient and ineffective assets and the resettlement of more than 1,430 redundant personnel. In 2019, the company was insolvent and faced bankruptcy.

Before 2020, Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Corporation took over Gangchuan Heavy Industry. Among them, the shipbuilding business of Gangchuan Heavy Industry was managed by Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Corporation, and the ship repair business was assigned to Shanhaiguan Shipbuilding Heavy Industry.

Public information shows that CSSC (Tianjin) Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. was established with investment from Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Corporation. It is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Dalian Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Group Co., Ltd., registered on January 12, 2021, with the Tianjin Binhai New Area Market Supervision and Administration Bureau. Its registered capital is 50,000 (ten thousand yuan), and its legal representative is Wang Jingdong.

On November 25, 2021, CSSC (Tianjin) Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. officially started operations in Tianjin Port Bonded Zone and plans to build a large-scale civilian ship assembly manufacturing base in the port area of the bonded zone.

It is understood that after the completion of the project, Dalian Tianjin will focus on creating more high-quality projects. It plans to invest another 3 billion yuan to build new ship types such as 300,000-ton ultra-large crude carriers (VLCCs), large container ships, and LNG carriers. It will also locate Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Corporation's R&D and design center and civilian ship upstream and downstream supporting projects in the bonded zone. This is of great significance to Dalian Tianjin's goal of becoming an important base in northern China for the construction of large civilian ships such as large container ships, oil and cargo ships, and ro-ro ships, and achieving high-quality development of manufacturing.

In addition, according to the "14th Five-Year Plan" (2021-2025) for the development of the cruise industry in Tianjin, it is planned to build Dalian Tianjin into a Chinese cruise manufacturing and maintenance base. Relying on the existing 500,000-ton and 300,000-ton docks of CSSC (Tianjin) Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., strengthening business cooperation with China Shipbuilding Group and other enterprises, supporting Tianjin's key shipbuilding enterprises in manufacturing high-standard cruise ships, focusing on the research and development of elderly cruise ships and inland sea cruise ro-ro ships, and entering the field of cruise ship design and manufacturing. Relying on its location advantages, supporting the development of cruise ship repair and modification businesses by key shipbuilding and repair enterprises in the city, guiding and encouraging various market entities to participate in cruise ship R&D, design, manufacturing, and maintenance services, supporting joint efforts with domestic and foreign shipbuilding scientific research institutes and enterprises to carry out technological breakthroughs and transformation of achievements in cruise ship design and manufacturing, making reasonable use of bonded repair policies, extending to the high-end of the cruise industry chain and value chain, and building the largest cruise base in the north that integrates cruise ship design and development, manufacturing and maintenance, and certification and monitoring.
