At 12:30 pm on January 9th, after nearly three months of dredging and rock excavation tests, the "Tiankun", Asia's largest heavy self-propelled suction dredger, invested and built by China Communications Construction Tianjin Navigation Bureau Co., Ltd., successfully returned to the Qidong shipyard in Jiangsu Province, marking the official readiness of the "Tiankun" for production.

During the trial period, the performance of key construction equipment such as the excavation system, conveying system, and intelligent dredging system of the "Tiankun" successfully passed the test of actual construction, and all test technical indicators met or exceeded the design standards.

The "Tiankun" was invested in and jointly designed by Tianhang Bureau and built by Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industry. The ship is 140 meters long, 27.8 meters wide, has a maximum digging depth of 35 meters, a total installed power of 25843 kilowatts, a design dredging capacity of 6000 cubic meters per hour, and a cutter rated power of 6600 kilowatts. Its dredging capacity exceeds that of the "Tianjing", currently Asia's largest suction dredger, also invested by China Communications Construction Tianjin Navigation Bureau.

The "Tiankun" went to Qidong, Jiangsu to conduct dredging tests on October 2, 2018. After nearly a month of debugging, the "Tiankun" achieved a maximum dredging production rate of 7501 cubic meters per hour, far exceeding the design standard of 6000 cubic meters per hour, and also verified the ship's excavation and conveying capacity over an ultra-long distance of 15 kilometers.

It is worth mentioning that during this dredging test, the intelligent dredging control system of the "Tiankun" was successfully debugged. This is the first application of automatic dredging technology for suction dredgers in China, representing another major breakthrough in China's dredging technology. After five years of intensive research and development, the company successfully applied this technology to the "Tiankun". Equipped with an intelligent dredging system, the "Tiankun" can achieve unmanned automatic dredging and automatically adjust its construction actions according to the actual situation of the construction area, ensuring that production efficiency remains high for a long time, truly achieving high and stable production for the dredger.

On November 23, 2018, the "Tiankun" went to Dalian to conduct rock excavation tests. The tests were conducted around the requirements of high output and low energy consumption, including five aspects: excavation posture tests of the cutter on the rock bed, tests of cutter teeth with different properties, cutter speed tests, limit lateral pulling force tests, and forward and reverse cutter excavation tests. Ultimately, the "Tiankun" successfully completed the test of excavating rocks with a strength of 60 MPa, exceeding the design standard of 50 MPa for rock hardness.

The dredging and rock excavation tests that have just concluded were the final test before the "Tiankun"'s production. The "Tiankun", returning from this major test, has delivered a satisfactory result. Next, the "Tiankun" will undergo a final dry-docking inspection at the Qidong shipyard in Jiangsu Province. After the dry-docking inspection, it will officially go into production. After commissioning, it will become Asia's largest and most advanced suction dredger, contributing Chinese strength to the construction of countries along the Belt and Road.
