Nantong CIMC Offshore relies on integrated technology transformation

Nantong COSCO Ship Repairing Co., Ltd. once focused on ship repair, earning the title of one of the "Four Little Dragons of Asian Ship Repair." However, the ship repair industry has low barriers to entry, with increasingly fierce low-price competition. The larger the company, the greater the risk of relying on a single industry. In contrast to the potential crisis in the ship repair industry, the international market for high-tech, high-profit marine engineering is booming. COSCO Ship Repairing decided to implement product transformation and upgrading.

As a culmination of various high technologies, marine engineering equipment is known as the "crown jewel" of the shipbuilding industry. For a long time, the core technologies for deep-sea oil extraction have been controlled by a few countries in Europe and America. China's offshore oil development has been limited to within 500 meters of the coast due to technological and equipment limitations.
Since 2006, Nantong COSCO Ship Repairing has been transforming its development to focus on marine engineering equipment construction. Leveraging decades of experience in ship repair and construction, it embarked on a new journey to obtain this "crown jewel." In early 2007, with the signing of construction contracts for marine engineering projects such as SEVAN650, Nantong COSCO Ship Repairing truly entered the marine engineering product construction market. In 2009, the company independently developed "Hope No. 1," the world's first cylindrical ultra-deepwater ocean drilling and storage platform. In 2012, "Hope No. 1" won the 2011 National Science and Technology Progress First Prize.
Nantong COSCO Ship Repairing integrates marine engineering product research and development, technical design, overall construction technology, construction methods, quality inspection, and technical consulting services. It is committed to independent innovation and the improvement of R&D capabilities in cutting-edge marine engineering technologies. Its R&D and construction of marine engineering products cover all types from shallow sea to ultra-deep sea, enabling China's marine engineering equipment to transition from "Made in China" to "Innovation from China." Currently, Nantong COSCO Ship Repairing has delivered 23 marine engineering product projects, including drilling, oil extraction, production, offshore shuttle tankers, semi-submersible living platforms, deep-sea pipeline laying vessels, and nearshore wind turbine installation vessels, covering almost all types of marine engineering products.
