2014 Outlook for the Development Trend of the Marine Engineering Industry

Looking back at 2013, the development of China's offshore engineering equipment industry was filled with both the hardships and joys of transformation, upgrading, and structural adjustment. The Chinese offshore engineering equipment industry (hereinafter referred to as the offshore engineering industry) created remarkable achievements, successfully propelling the industry to new heights.
In recent years, China's leading shipbuilders have begun to advance into high-tech, high-value-added offshore engineering equipment businesses, and the influence of the Chinese offshore engineering equipment market has gradually expanded. Some leading companies have begun to challenge the existing structure in the general assembly of mainstream drilling equipment such as drilling platforms and drilling ships, and have made some breakthroughs. Taking the self-elevating drilling platform, popular in the offshore engineering industry, as an example, China undertook nearly 40 units in 2013, surpassing Singapore for the first time.
From the current international industrial structure of marine engineering equipment, in terms of general contracting and design, marine engineering companies and design companies in the United States, Norway, France, and other Western European countries still dominate the general contracting and design market, holding a large number of key design technologies and patented technologies, and are at the top of the industrial value chain. South Korea and Singapore are gradually advancing their general contracting and design capabilities through their construction capabilities, and are at the high end of the industrial value chain. The development of China's offshore engineering industry as a whole varies greatly. Some representative leading enterprises, such as Dalian Shipbuilding Heavy Industry, Nantong COSCO Shipping, CIMC Raffles, Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding, Hudong-Zhonghua, and Zhenhua Heavy Industry, have fully demonstrated the strength to impact the high-end industrial value chain of the world's offshore engineering industry, but the overall Chinese offshore engineering industry is still in a moderately high development process.
