In an effort to improve upon last year's lower order intake, Jiangsu Rongsheng Heavy Industries Co., Ltd., China's largest privately-owned shipbuilding company, has launched an active marketing campaign this year, aiming to increase its order volume.
As of April this year, Rongsheng Heavy Industries has received orders for 9 180,000DWT Capesize bulk carriers and 2 self-elevating drilling platforms. Including these, its backlog of orders totals approximately 90 vessels/platforms, with a construction schedule extending to 2015.
Currently, the company is accelerating its order intake, primarily focusing on large and medium-sized bulk carriers, tankers, and container ships. In collaboration with France's GTT, the company is nearing completion of a membrane-type LNG carrier and plans to continue securing orders for medium-sized LNG carriers below 80,000CBM.
Furthermore, Rongsheng Heavy Industries is currently in negotiations with a German shipowner for the construction of 9,400TEU container ships. In addition, the company expects to receive orders for 82,000DWT Panamax bulk carriers and 112,000DWT Aframax tankers in the first half of this year.
According to Rongsheng Heavy Industries, its 2013 order target is 24 commercial vessels and 20 offshore engineering orders, totaling approximately 44 vessels/platforms with a combined value of approximately US$1.81 billion. The company also aims to deliver a total of 20 newly built vessels with a total DWT of 4 million this year.
Additionally, a company representative stated that while uncertainties remain this year, the company's prospects are positive and future challenges are unlikely to pose significant problems.
