Recently, Unitramp, a Naples-based shipbroker, confirmed that Italian shipowners Giovanni Visentini and Mariano Pane have ordered several new vessels from the China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC) Weihai shipyard.

Giovanni Visentini Trasporti Fluviomarittimi ordered 2+2 38,000 DWT handysize bulk carriers from the CSIC Weihai shipyard, each equipped with two mobile cranes. These two environmentally friendly vessels, designed by Fesdec of South Korea to meet upcoming ballast water regulations, are scheduled for delivery in 2015 and will fly the Italian flag.

The technical survey for the vessel was entrusted to Registro Italiano Navale (RINA). The contract price has not been disclosed, but is estimated to be around $20 million per vessel. The shipowner also has the option to order two more vessels.

Meanwhile, Globeco Shipping, owned by Mariano Pane, also signed a 1+1 bulk carrier construction contract with the CSIC Weihai shipyard. The shipowner has announced its return to the newbuilding market. The total investment could reach $20 million, with the shipowner also having the option to order a second vessel. Mariano Pane stated, “We will soon resume shipping operations; we are currently discussing the details. The market downturn is the best time to seize market opportunities.”
