On October 30, Guangzhou Shipyard International Co., Ltd. (GSIC) signed a contract with China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation Ninth Design and Research Institute Engineering Co., Ltd. for the project to enhance high-end ship final assembly capabilities and improve supporting facilities, followed by a groundbreaking ceremony. Attendees included Sun Weijun, Party Secretary, Chairman, and General Manager of CSIC Ninth Design and Research Institute; Zhou Xuhui, Deputy Party Secretary, Director, and General Manager of GSIC; as well as Vice Presidents Jin Lichao and Kang Youping. Kang Youping presided over the ceremony.

This project will add a new 900-ton gantry crane and its tracks, retrofit the existing 900-ton gantry crane for tandem lifting operations, and install an additional 150-ton portal crane with tracks while hardening the corresponding site. Through this project, GCI aims to comprehensively enhance its high-end shipbuilding capabilities and infrastructure for its final assembly platform, improve production efficiency, and further solidify its market competitiveness in high-end vessel types such as MR tankers.

Sun Weijun emphasized that this collaboration will not only elevate GSCI's assembly capabilities but also strengthen critical links in the shipbuilding supply chain, laying a solid “hardware foundation” for China's independently developed large vessels. CSIC Ninth Design Institute will leverage this project to translate its accumulated technical expertise and management experience into tangible construction achievements, striving to complete the task efficiently and with high quality to support GSCI's leap in high-end shipbuilding capacity.

Zhou Xuhui emphasized that CSIC Ninth Design Institute serves as the national flagship team for engineering design and consulting within China's shipbuilding industry system, with its expertise shaping the planning and construction of most major shipyards nationwide. The collaboration between CSIC Ninth Design Institute and Guangzhou Shipyard International is founded on highly complementary strengths and aligned strategic objectives, poised to propel Guangzhou Shipyard International toward advanced, green, and intelligent development.

The signing of this contract and the commencement of the project mark a crucial step forward in Guangzhou Shipyard International's journey to become a world-class shipbuilding enterprise. This initiative will further enhance the company's comprehensive competitiveness in the global high-end shipbuilding market, inject new momentum into the high-quality development of China's shipbuilding industry, and contribute Guangzhou Shipyard's strength to the nation's drive to become a manufacturing powerhouse.
