Recently, Changhong International announced that it has officially signed a contract with a well-known shipowner for the construction of 6+2 115000 ton LR2 product oil tankers. Changhong International has fully tapped into production capacity and improved production efficiency under existing facilities, further consolidating its position in the LR2 oil tanker construction market through the concept of early and good ship delivery.

Changhong International did not disclose specific information such as the shipowner and ship price, but according to foreign media reports, the cost of these new ships is about 66-67 million US dollars per ship. After all the alternative orders are confirmed and take effect, the total transaction amount will reach 536 million US dollars (about 3.862 billion yuan). The new ships are expected to be delivered gradually between 2026 and 2028.

As a reference, Clarkson's data shows that the current new shipbuilding price for a 113000-115000 deadweight ton LR2 product oil tanker is about 75.5 million US dollars, slightly lower than the 76 million US dollars in the same period last year.

The LR2/Afra type oil tanker signed this time is jointly developed by Changhong International and CIMC ORIC, which complies with the latest international regulations and environmental standards. The ship has a total length of 249.9 meters, a width of 44 meters, a depth of 21.5 meters, a structural draft of 15.2 meters, and a maximum load capacity of 115000 tons. It combines efficient operation with low-carbon environmental protection characteristics.

As the latest generation LR2 oil tanker in the current market, this vessel adopts a straight bow design, optimizes navigation performance under different draft conditions, effectively reduces comprehensive fuel consumption and carbon emissions, and has been rated as an excellent carbon emission level. In addition, the ship is equipped with the latest 6G60ME engine and adopts efficient propulsion systems such as large-diameter propellers, vortex eliminators, and energy-saving ducts, significantly improving propulsion efficiency. Compared with similar ship types, at the same speed, its main engine continuous power (NCR) is reduced by 10%, and its energy efficiency index (EEDI) meets the highest standard of the third stage, fully in line with the global trend of green transformation in the shipping industry.

The successful acceptance of this order not only demonstrates Changhong International's technical strength in the field of oil tanker construction, but also provides more competitive environmentally friendly ship types for global shipowners, further promoting the sustainable development of the industry.

It is reported that Changhong International was invested and constructed by New Changjiang Industrial Group in Zhoushan Archipelago New Area in 2009, and CIMC Xinde Leasing, a subsidiary of CIMC Group, officially invested in Changhong International in 2018. At present, Changhong International has established three major shipbuilding and repair industry bases in Dinghai District, Putuo District, and Daishan County of Zhoushan City, namely Zhoushan Changhong International Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (headquarters), Zhoushan Putuo Changhong Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., and Zhoushan CIMC Changhong Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. It is a large-scale shipbuilding industry enterprise that integrates shipbuilding, ship repair, ship dismantling, and metal resource utilization in the entire industry chain. The total investment of the three major bases exceeds 10 billion yuan, covering an area of over 6.5 million square meters, with a total shoreline length of over 20000 meters, an annual shipbuilding capacity of over 5 million deadweight tons, and an annual ship repair capacity of over 500 ships.

Changhong International entered the LR2 oil tanker construction market for the first time in June 2023, signing contracts with Singaporean and European shipowners for the construction of 2 and 4+4 115000 ton LR2 oil tankers, respectively. According to Clarkson's data, as of now, the number of orders for Changhong International LR2/Afra type oil tankers has reached 27, ranking second in the world only to Shanchuan Heavy Industry (33).

Excluding the latest orders, according to Clarkson's data, Changhong International currently holds a total of 81 orders of 10.81 million deadweight tons, including 45 container ships and 36 oil tankers, with delivery scheduled for 2029.
