Norwegian Car Carriers (NOCC) has confirmed an order for two 7,000-car capacity LNG dual-fuel car carriers from CIMC Raffles.

This order was initially reported last November, but NOCC had not confirmed it. Recently, the company announced on social media that it had signed a construction contract with CIMC Raffles. The first vessel is scheduled for delivery and operation next year, and the second will be delivered in 2026.

The hull numbers of these two vessels are H610 and H611 respectively. In addition to using LNG dual fuel, this type of vessel will also have the DNV "ammonia-ready" notation.

NOCC did not disclose the specific price. For reference, Clarksons data shows that the price of a new 7,000-car capacity car carrier is currently US\$97 million, a 3.2% increase compared to US\$94 million in the same period last year.

It is said that the reason why NOCC was able to obtain an earlier delivery time for this order is because the company took over the optional orders that other shipowners did not execute.

It is understood that NOCC was established in 2010, merging from Eidsiva Rederi ASA (established in 1930) and Dyvi Shipping AS (established in 1955). In 2014, 100% of the company's shares were acquired by Car Carrier Investments AS (CCI), which is 50% owned by Norwegian shipowner Klaveness Marine and JP Morgan Global Maritime Investment Fund respectively. At the beginning of last year, Klaveness Marine sold its stake in NOCC to JP Morgan, making NOCC a wholly-owned subsidiary of JP Morgan. The transaction price exceeded 1 billion Norwegian Krone (approximately RMB 679 million).

According to the official website, NOCC currently has a fleet of three car carriers: the 6,500-car capacity "Liberty Passion" (built in 2017), the "NOCC Oceanic" (built in 2012), and the 6,754 CEU "NOCC Atlantic" (built in 2009). These three vessels were built by Hyundai Mipo Dockyard, Hyundai Heavy Industries, and Weihai Sanjin Shipyard respectively.

According to Clarksons data, CIMC Raffles currently has a total order backlog of 21 vessels with a total deadweight tonnage of 993,300, of which 17 are LNG dual-fuel car carriers: 9 from Zodiac Maritime, 4 from Atlas Maritime, 2 from NOCC, and 2 from Wallenius Lines. In addition, there are 2 FPSOs and 2 Ro-Ro vessels. In the current car carrier construction field, CIMC Raffles ranks fifth in the world in terms of order backlog.
