Recently, Zhoushan Changhong International Shipyard Co., Ltd. signed shipbuilding contracts for 2 and 4+4 115,000 DWT LR2 oil tankers with a Singaporean shipowner and a European shipowner, respectively. This marks Changhong International's first-ever LR2 oil tanker order in its history and also sets a new record for the largest single batch of oil tanker orders signed this year.
This vessel type is a new generation LR2/Aframax oil tanker developed by Changhong International in cooperation with CIMC ORIC based on the latest specifications and rules. The vessel has an overall length of 249.9 meters, a length between perpendiculars of 245.5 meters, a width of 44 meters, a molded depth of 21.5 meters, a structural draft of 15.2 meters, a maximum deadweight of 115,000 tons, and is classified by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS).
As the latest generation product of this type of vessel on the market, this vessel type has significant energy-saving and environmental protection characteristics. It adopts a straight bulbous bow, which can take into account the rapid performance of both design draft and structural draft, reducing overall operating fuel consumption and carbon emissions, thus achieving an excellent carbon emission rating. Furthermore, it uses the latest generation 6G60ME main engine, equipped with a propeller with a larger diameter than similar vessel types, as well as energy-saving devices such as swirl fins and a tail duct, significantly improving propulsion efficiency. This allows it to achieve the same design speed with a continuous power (NCR) of the main engine 10% lower than similar types, and its EEDI meets the highest Phase 3 requirements.
Based on the latest unified requirements for oil tankers and bulk carriers, as well as MARPOL Convention requirements for damaged stability, the new order vessel's compartmentation and metacenter position have undergone multiple rounds of optimization. This ensures the vessel has maximized cargo hold volume, optimized ballast tank volume, and optimized overall longitudinal bending moment, thus resulting in a very advanced lightship weight index for the vessel.
To meet the latest emission control requirements, the vessels in this order also adopt Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) denitration technology to meet the highest Tier III standards for nitrogen oxide emissions; open-loop scrubbers are installed to meet sulfur oxide emission requirements; and ballast water treatment systems are installed to comply with the Ballast Water Management Convention requirements. Additionally, a ballast water exchange method is configured for emergency use by the shipowner.
In 2023, Changhong International's operations continued to strengthen. Currently, the company has 40 vessels in hand, with shipbuilding slots booked until 2026. As the oil tanker market is a key product for Changhong International in recent years, the business development team is actively following up with prospective clients, and new orders are just around the corner.
