On March 9, Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Hudong-Zhonghua"), a subsidiary of China Shipbuilding Group, and China Shipbuilding Industry Trading Co., Ltd. jointly delivered the first ship of the 24116TEU ultra-large container ship series, "MSC Tessa", built for CMB Financial Leasing Co., Ltd. and Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) at the Changxing Shipbuilding Base. This is currently the largest container ship completed and delivered globally, surpassing the 24000TEU capacity of the "Changyi" ultra-large container ship delivered last June. Hudong-Zhonghua has set a new record, further consolidating China Shipbuilding's leading position in the world's ultra-large container ship construction field.

He Jun, member of the Party Committee and designated vice president of CMB Financial Leasing, Song Zhehao, on-site manager of Mediterranean Shipping Company, and Weng Hongbing, deputy general manager and general manager of Changxing Shipbuilding, delivered speeches. Liu Xuedong, deputy general manager of Changxing Shipbuilding, presided over the ceremony. Chi Chao from CMB Financial Leasing, Liu Xuedong from Hudong-Zhonghua, and Zhang Dalei from China Shipbuilding Trading signed the delivery documents. More than 50 leaders and guests from CMB Financial Leasing, Mediterranean Shipping Company, DNV, and Hudong-Zhonghua attended the naming and delivery ceremony. The godmother, Feng Wenting, cut the ribbon and named the new ship.

The ship was independently designed by Hudong-Zhonghua, with complete independent intellectual property rights, and classed by DNV. The ship has an overall length of 399.99 meters, more than 60 meters longer than the current world's largest aircraft carrier; a width of 61.5 meters, with a deck area approximately equal to four standard football fields; a depth of 33.2 meters, a maximum stacking layer of 25, equivalent to the height of a 22-story building; it can carry more than 240,000 tons of cargo and 24,116 standard containers at once, making it an undisputed "giant" and "cargo king" at sea.

The ship is equipped with a hybrid scrubber desulfurization device, as well as a unique bulbous bow, large-diameter propeller, and energy-saving duct. At the same time, it adopts a bubble drag reduction system for the first time, which not only effectively reduces the ship's total energy consumption but also reduces carbon emissions by 3%-4%, reducing more than 6,000 tons annually. The use of a shaft generator system for the first time effectively reduces fuel consumption, optimizes fuel consumption and the ship's Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI), and reduces greenhouse gas emissions.

During the design and construction of the ship, Hudong-Zhonghua's container ship design team focused on the characteristics of the shipowner's operating routes and further optimized the design of the ship's superstructure, radar mast, and other related aspects, while effectively improving its maximum loading capacity. The ship combines green, environmentally friendly, efficient, energy-saving, economical, and safe features, becoming the latest ultra-large container ship design in China.

Mediterranean Shipping Company is a leading global shipping company, ranking first in the world in container ship fleet capacity. It has ordered four 24116TEU ultra-large container ships from Hudong-Zhonghua. Hudong-Zhonghua lived up to expectations, using information-based construction methods such as "digital trial boxing" to break through production bottlenecks and achieve improved quality and efficiency.

Currently, the construction and delivery of ultra-large container ships have entered "Hudong-Zhonghua time." It is understood that the Mediterranean Shipping Company's No. 2 ship has completed sea trials, and the No. 3 and No. 4 ships are under rhythmic construction. According to the plan, they will be delivered successively before August.
