On the morning of June 29th, "Wudongde," China's first integrated transportation and lifting deep-sea offshore wind power construction vessel, jointly built by China Three Gorges Corporation, China Merchants Group, China Shipbuilding Group, and China Communications Construction Company, was officially delivered and put into operation at the China Merchants Industry Haimen base, adding another powerful tool to China's offshore wind power development.
The 3,000-ton full-slewing crane vessel "Wudongde" was invested by China Three Gorges Materials, built by China Merchants Industry, designed by the China Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Design Research Institute, and its core equipment was supplied by Zhenhua Heavy Industries of China Communications Construction Group. It is a benchmark project of the four major state-owned enterprises focusing on the national "dual carbon" goal, demonstrating their complementary advantages and collaborative efforts, supporting the development of offshore new energy in China and globally. "Wudongde" is named after the Wudongde Hydropower Station and will uphold the philosophy of "constantly scaling new technological heights and creating high-quality projects."
The vessel is 182 meters long, 46 meters wide, and 15 meters deep, with a full load displacement of 80,000 tons. It adopts a single-side crane layout design, with a maximum lifting capacity of 3,000 tons and a lifting height of 130 meters above the deck. Equipped with a DP2 dynamic positioning system, it can achieve rapid and precise positioning in deep waters. It is currently the offshore wind turbine foundation construction vessel with the strongest deck loading capacity (over 10,000 tons) and the largest deck area (6,200 square meters) among similar vessels in China.
As China's first specialized wind power construction vessel integrating deep-sea wind power foundation transportation and lifting construction, "Wudongde" has the capability to perform various types of foundation construction for large-scale offshore wind turbines with a single unit capacity of 10 megawatts or more. It can extend the annual operating window by about 50 days compared to traditional construction vessel groups, significantly improving foundation construction efficiency. Each voyage can carry four sets of 2,000-ton wind turbine foundations, with a loading capacity equivalent to a 30,000-ton deck transport vessel. A single vessel can complete major processes such as port loading, sea transportation, hoisting, and pile driving, featuring comprehensive functions and high operational efficiency. This effectively reduces construction costs and meets the high industry standards of marine engineering construction.
"Wudongde" has made new breakthroughs in new technologies and intelligent applications, with energy efficiency and public safety standards at the leading level in China. The vessel is fully electric-powered, equipped with an eight-point mooring positioning system and a DP2 dynamic positioning system, meeting the requirements for unlimited navigation areas. It has the capability to operate in deep-sea areas with richer wind energy resources, further promoting the development of offshore wind energy from nearshore to deep sea. After its official operation in July, it will mainly operate in the Guangdong and Fujian waters, becoming another powerful tool for China's deep-sea offshore wind power development. It will further enhance China's offshore wind power infrastructure equipment level and provide strong support for the concentrated and large-scale development of deep-sea offshore wind power and the achievement of the "carbon peak and carbon neutrality" goals.
"Wudongde" was built by the China Merchants Industry Haimen base, adhering to the principles of "safety, quality, and speed." The Haimen base organized superior production resources and established a special technical research and development team. Among them, 69 key pieces of equipment are domestically produced, with a domestication rate of 86%. At the same time, overcoming challenges such as high technical difficulty, long material ordering cycles, and the impact of sporadic outbreaks of the COVID-19 pandemic, it delivered a new "major national equipment" one month ahead of schedule with high quality.
