On December 16, "Tiejian Wind Power 01," China's first domestically built 1,300-ton self-elevating and self-propelled wind power installation vessel, constructed by Qidong COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry, was delivered and put into use, marking another significant achievement in China's offshore wind power installation capabilities.
The delivery ceremony was attended by Wang Lixin, Vice President of China Railway Construction Corporation; Xu Sifa, Chairman of China Railway Construction Port and Harbor Engineering Bureau Group; Ji Tao, General Manager of CRCC Financial Leasing; Xing Wenhua, Director of China Shipbuilding 708 Research Institute; Zhang Dongbiao, Deputy General Manager of China Classification Society Jiangsu Branch; Yang Wanping, Executive Deputy Mayor of Qidong City; Li Yiwen, Party Secretary of COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry; Zhao Zengshan, Deputy General Manager of COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry, and other leaders.
The vessel, built with an investment of over 500 million yuan by China Railway Construction Port and Harbor Engineering Bureau Group Co., Ltd., and with overall design by China Shipbuilding Group's 708th Institute, is China's first heavy-duty self-elevating and self-propelled wind power installation vessel independently designed, developed, and built, with complete independent intellectual property rights. Qidong COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry completed the production design and overall construction in just 16.5 months, setting a record for the fastest construction of this type of vessel in China and fully demonstrating its leading domestic and world-class construction capabilities.
The vessel is 105 meters long, 42 meters wide, and has a molded depth of 8.5 meters. Its legs are 85 meters long, with a maximum operating water depth of 50 meters. The deck working area is approximately 2,500 square meters, equivalent to a standard football field, and can accommodate three 6-megawatt or two 8-megawatt wind turbine units. It has a cruising range of 3,000 nautical miles and can withstand a typhoon of magnitude 16, enabling high-precision installation even in harsh sea conditions. The vessel's lifting capacity is leading among similar vessels in China, with its twin 1,300-ton revolving derricks being the largest of their kind in the country.
"Tiejian Wind Power 01" integrates the functions of a self-elevating platform, self-propelled transportation, pile driving, hoisting and installation, dynamic positioning, long-distance dispatch, nearshore operations, and intelligent construction management. The vessel is equipped with a 1,300-ton revolving derrick, capable of pile driving, tower lifting, and wind turbine installation for 8-megawatt and below offshore wind turbine foundations. It is equipped with an IHC S-3000 hydraulic pile hammer and an 8-meter pile gripper from the Netherlands' IHC company, one of the most advanced and powerful pile hammers currently imported into China, capable of independently completing the entire process of offshore large wind turbine foundation pile driving and wind turbine installation. It features an electric propulsion system with a maximum speed exceeding 7 knots, and has self-propulsion capabilities, meeting international shipping area dispatch and operation requirements. It is equipped with an advanced hydraulic double-acting ring girder lifting device, enabling continuous and rapid platform lifting and improving operational efficiency. It is equipped with DP-2 dynamic positioning and four-point mooring systems, allowing for flexible and agile operation, enabling precise positioning even in a magnitude 16 typhoon, increasing the operational window and extending the number of working days, significantly shortening the platform positioning time while meeting safety redundancy requirements. It is equipped with a helicopter deck to facilitate the movement of construction personnel.
The vessel adopts an advanced swingable and variable-ratio pulley system structure, with a self-overturning function for large-diameter monopiles, with a maximum clamping angle of 45 degrees, significantly improving the lifting speed without tangling the ropes, a domestic first. It is the first vessel of its kind to be equipped with a steel helicopter platform, capable of accommodating small helicopters such as the Z-9, providing emergency rescue and material supply capabilities. The vessel's comprehensive performance meets the construction requirements of offshore wind farms "50 kilometers offshore and a maximum operating water depth of 50 meters," making it one of the most advanced and comprehensively capable offshore wind power installation vessels in China.
The development of this vessel adheres to the "safety, innovation, environmental protection, and energy saving" spirit and philosophy of China Railway Construction Corporation, employing independent design and construction, and using world-class key equipment. During the design process, the 708th Institute worked closely with the ship owner and shipyard, overcoming numerous technical challenges. The successful design and construction of this vessel will significantly enhance China's comprehensive utilization and research level in offshore wind power, making important contributions to the vigorous development of the blue economy, the construction of a strong maritime nation, and the exploration of the deep sea.
