On the last day of October, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding received orders for six more bulk carriers from a repeat customer, marking three consecutive months of order wins. With the year-end approaching, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding has begun its preemptive order-winning campaign.
On October 31, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group announced that it had received a new ship order from the Bulgarian national shipping company Navigation Maritime Bulgare (NAVIBULGAR) to build 4+2 31,800-deadweight-ton Great Lakes-type bulk carriers.
These six new vessels will be built in accordance with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) NOx Tier III regulations and will also comply with the IMO 2020 sulfur emission regulations. The first four bulk carriers will be delivered between 2021 and 2022. Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group did not disclose the specific price of this order.
Ren Letian, CEO of Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group, said: “Great Lakes-type bulk carriers are a relatively new vessel type in our bulk carrier product portfolio, and we are constantly striving to develop and launch new products. Navibulgar is an old customer of ours; Yangzijiang Shipbuilding has previously built and delivered a 45,000-deadweight-ton bulk carrier, and Navibulgar gave very positive feedback on this vessel, its construction process, and the professionalism of our team. We will continue to be committed to building high-quality vessels to repay our customers for their continued trust and support in Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group.”

It is understood that Navibulgar is the largest handysize bulk carrier operator in Europe, with more than 40 bulk carriers of various types and an operating history of over 125 years. In July 2017, Navibulgar placed an order with Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group for 4+2 45,000-deadweight-ton handysize bulk carriers. On July 30 this year, the first 45,000 DWT bulk carrier built by New Yangzi Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group, for Navibulgar was named and delivered.
With the impending sulfur cap, the newbuilding market is becoming increasingly active, with a surge in inquiries. At the same time, the brand influence of Yangzijiang Shipbuilding is also beginning to play a role. The strong team management capabilities, stable operations, and excellent performance in building large, complex, high-quality, and efficient vessels of Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group are gaining the trust of more and more ship owners, including those from Japan, known for their high standards. More and more ship owner inquiries are turning into new ship orders.

In September, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group received orders for five new vessels, including three 82,000-deadweight-ton bulk carriers and two 325,000-deadweight-ton bulk carriers. Together with the latest order for six bulk carriers, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group has received 13 orders in the past three months, far exceeding the five orders received in the first half of this year.
To date, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding has received orders for 18 new vessels. According to the plan, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group’s order target for the whole year of 2019 is US$1.5 to 2 billion.
