On November 1, 2019, the Deepsea Yantai drilling platform, designed and built by CIMC Raffles, successfully commenced drilling at an oil well in the Norwegian North Sea. This marked the platform's first drilling operation since entering service.

The Deepsea Yantai drilling platform is a sixth-generation platform custom-built by CIMC Raffles for the North Sea. Suitable for harsh polar operating environments, it is a semi-submersible drilling platform. Employing a GM4-D design, the basic design was jointly completed by CIMC Raffles and Norway's Global Maritime company. CIMC Raffles holds 80% of the independent intellectual property rights, completing all detailed and construction designs. This resulted in 11 major technological breakthroughs and 114 optimizations, increasing the platform's operational capacity by 19%.

The platform measures 106.75 meters in length, 73.7 meters in width, has a draft of 21 meters, an operating water depth of 500 meters, and a drilling depth of 8000 meters. Specifically designed for the Norwegian continental shelf and the Barents Sea, it is equipped with NOV's latest designed derrick system, designed for service temperatures down to -20 degrees Celsius, and meets ice class requirements. It features a DP3 dynamic positioning system and an 8-point mooring system. All Class 1 safety equipment on the outer periphery of the platform has added electric heating or windbreaks for ice protection. Windbreaks are installed over a large area of the drilling zone to ensure normal operation in harsh environments. The platform meets the world's strictest Norsok (Norwegian petroleum industry technical regulations) standards and is classed by DNV (Det Norske Veritas).

In March of this year, CIMC Raffles signed a drilling service contract with Neptune. In June of this year, the Deepsea Yantai drilling platform set sail for the Norwegian North Sea to fulfill this contract. After successfully arriving in Bergen, Norway, the platform completed all pre-drilling preparations. Following a rigorous assessment of its hardware and software by the Norwegian Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA), it obtained the AOC certificate, essential for offshore operations, in October 2019. On November 1, 2019, the platform successfully commenced drilling in the North Sea.

It is understood that the Deepsea Yantai platform's asset and operational management is handled by Ocean Challenger, a wholly-owned subsidiary of CIMC Group, with Odfjell Drilling responsible for operations. Since signing the drilling service contract with Neptune Energy in March of this year, Ocean Challenger, CIMC Raffles, and the ship management company have worked together to effectively ensure the platform's safe arrival in Bergen, Norway, and the smooth progress of all preparatory work.
