On December 28, the Center for Development of Degrees and Postgraduate Education of the Ministry of Education officially released the results of the fourth national discipline evaluation. The evaluation results of more than 7,450 participating disciplines from universities and research institutions across the country were officially announced. In the evaluation of the Shipbuilding and Ocean Engineering discipline, Harbin Engineering University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University received the highest A+ rating, ranking first without surprise. Naval University of Engineering received a B+, ranking second, Tianjin University and Dalian Maritime University received a B, ranking third, followed by Wuhan University of Technology and Northwestern Polytechnical University with a B-, Dalian University of Technology and Huazhong University of Science and Technology with a C+, Jiangsu University of Science and Technology with a C, and finally Shanghai Maritime University and Zhejiang University with a C-.

Since 2002, the discipline evaluation organized by the Center for Development of Degrees and Postgraduate Education of the Ministry of Education has been conducted for four rounds. The fourth round of evaluation was carried out in 95 first-level disciplines in 2016 (excluding 16 disciplines such as military science), with 513 units and 7449 disciplines participating in the evaluation. The evaluation results are announced according to the principle of "precise calculation and graded presentation." Based on the percentile of the "overall discipline level score," the top 70% of the disciplines are divided into 9 grades and announced.
