September 8, Nantong CSSC-Kawasaki 20000TEU class built for COSCO Shipping Group container ship (CSSC-Kawasaki 231) successfully launched. This is one of the largest and most advanced container ships currently built by Chinese shipyards, signifying that Nantong CSSC-Kawasaki has entered the ranks of advanced 20,000-TEU container ship construction.
At 8 am that day, the dock gate opened, and CSSC-Kawasaki 231 subsequently moved to the dock entrance. At 3 pm, under the maintenance of the on-site marine patrol boat, 8 tugboats with more than 3000 horsepower tugboats moved the powerless "CSSC-Kawasaki 231" to outfitting dock, the whole process took 40 minutes.
It is understood that CSSC-Kawasaki 231 has a total length of 400.00 meters, a molded breadth of 58.6 meters, a molded depth of 30.7 meters, a lightweight of 65,000 tons, a deadweight of 150,000 tons, a design draft of about 14 meters, and a design speed of about 22.5 knots. As a typical representative of ultra-large container ships, this ship has advantages such as low fuel consumption, large loading capacity, high construction precision, and strong port adaptability. The ship's loading capacity, operational speed, and safety performance indicators are all among the world's leading ones. "CSSC-Kawasaki 231" is a larger, more fuel-efficient, and more environmentally friendly ultra-large container ship developed by Nantong CSSC-Kawasaki based on the previously delivered 10000TEU and 13386TEU ultra-large container ships.
It is understood that in September 2015, COSCO Group ordered a total of 11 20,000-TEU ultra-large container ships from four shipyards in China. Among them, Nantong CSSC-Kawasaki built 4 19000TEU container ships; Dalian CSSC-Kawasaki built 2 19000TEU container ships; Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding built 3 19000TEU container ships and Dalian Shipbuilding Industry built 2 19000TEU container ships. According to the plan, all 11 ships will be delivered in 2018.
