The Maersk Intrepid, built by Keppel FELS for Maersk Drilling, is currently the world's largest drilling platform ( type   shipyard   transactions ) platform.

Keppel FELS, a subsidiary of Keppel Offshore & Marine in Singapore, delivered a total of 21 offshore drilling rigs in 2013, setting a new Guinness World Record. Previously, Keppel FELS held the Guinness World Record for building the world's largest offshore drilling platform.

Guinness World Records recognized Keppel FELS as the world's largest offshore drilling platform manufacturer based on the highest number of platforms delivered in a single year. Guinness World Records awarded the official record after a thorough evaluation of documents provided by Keppel FELS.

These documents included a report from Deloitte & Touche, verifying that Keppel FELS successfully delivered 21 offshore drilling platforms in 2013. Additionally, Keppel FELS provided data from market intelligence firm IHS Petrodata, which confirmed that 21 platforms was the highest number delivered in a single year after comparing data from the top ten offshore drilling platform manufacturers in 2013.

Previously, Keppel Group set a record in 2009 by delivering 13 oil drilling platforms in a single year. It is understood that the group once had as many as 45 drilling platforms under simultaneous production this year. Keppel FELS has built over half of the world's jack-up drilling rigs over the past decade.

Wang Kexsen, General Manager of Keppel Offshore & Marine and Keppel FELS, stated that building a KFELS B-class jack-up drilling platform involves coordination with multiple parties and over a thousand workers. In 2013, we had 45 drilling platforms under construction simultaneously. We streamlined the construction process by adopting new technologies and equipment and employed innovative construction methods. The four departments of the company worked seamlessly together to set new standards.

“Although we delivered so many drilling platforms, each user is important, and we work closely with them to understand their needs. We originally planned to deliver 20 drilling platforms, but ultimately we delivered 21 on time, ahead of schedule, and safely. Our last record for drilling platform delivery was in 2009, when we delivered 13. This is the Keppel standard. We are always challenging ourselves to do better.”

In April of this year, Keppel FELS delivered the Maersk Intrepid, the first ultra-harsh environment jack-up drilling platform built for Maersk Drilling. Reportedly, this "XL enhanced" jack-up drilling platform has legs 206.8 meters long and is currently the world's largest drilling platform, capable of year-round operation in waters up to 150 meters deep in the harsh North Sea environment.
