Kouchang Shipbuilding and a German shipowner formally signed contracts in two phases for the construction of eight 208,000-dwt bulk carriers. Construction of the new vessels will begin in the second half of next year at Kouchang's new factory area—the Taizhou China Aviation Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Co., Ltd.

To date, Kouchang Shipbuilding has secured orders for 33 vessels totaling nearly 3 million dwt this year, laying a solid foundation for the company's sustained and stable development.

Kouchang Shipbuilding Chairman Wang Junze stated, “The shipping market remains sluggish in the aftermath of the global financial crisis, with difficulties in securing orders, construction, financing, delivery, and profitability still plaguing most shipbuilding companies. Securing orders for eight large vessels from a German shipowner within a week has undoubtedly boosted the confidence of everyone in the company.” He said that this order is the result of the company's accurate grasp of the development laws of the world shipping industry, accelerating the adjustment of product and market structures, and establishing a modern lean shipbuilding model. It is through transformation and upgrading that new development space has been opened up.
