Qingshan Shipyard has received an order for three 43,500DWT bulk carriers from the German shipowner Hamburg Bulk Carriers (HBC). This order, previously optional, has now officially taken effect, with a total value of US$70 million.
It is understood that Qingshan Shipyard signed a contract with HBC in June this year for the construction of 3+9 43,500DWT bulk carriers. Including the three optional orders that have now taken effect, this shipowner has a total of six 43,500DWT bulk carrier orders with Qingshan Shipyard. At the same time, HBC plans to exercise the option for the remaining six optional orders next month, with the 12 43,500DWT bulk carriers expected to cost a total of US$270 million.
In addition, Executive Director Jens von Husen revealed plans to invest a further US$130 million by the end of the year to order an additional six environmentally friendly bulk carriers from Chinese shipyards.
These up to 12 43,500DWT bulk carriers are being built based on a newly developed design from Finland's Deltamarin. Simulation tests have shown that their daily fuel consumption is only 20 metric tons, indicating that these vessels are environmentally friendly and fuel-efficient.
