Nantong Mingde Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. announced that it has signed a contract with Europe for the construction of 7 24000DWT stainless steel chemical tankers. The mysterious ship owner, recently surfaced, is possibly the Monaco-based shipowner Celsius Shipping Company.
According to TradeWinds, Celsius recently signed a contract with Mingde Heavy Industry for the construction of 3 24000DWT stainless steel chemical tankers, with delivery starting in 2015. However, no mention was made of optional orders.
A Celsius representative stated that the 24000DWT stainless steel chemical tankers are slightly larger than standard 20000DWT vessels, but their fuel consumption efficiency is significantly improved. Mingde Heavy Industry's independently developed 24000DWT chemical tankers have a daily fuel consumption of 16 tons, the lowest among similar vessels. This series of vessels can simultaneously carry 24 different liquids and 6 different types of cargo. In recent years, Mingde Heavy Industry has targeted high-end customers and high-end ship types, establishing itself in the industry's niche market through technology and quality, and has successfully delivered multiple Class II chemical tankers. Previously, Mingde Heavy Industry delivered the 30,000-ton duplex stainless steel chemical tanker "Lotus," built for an Asian shipowner, which was highly praised by the shipowner, J.O. ODFJELL GROUP, leading to further orders. Including the order for 7 24000DWT stainless steel chemical tankers, Mingde Heavy Industry currently has nearly 40 chemical tanker orders, making it the shipyard with the largest number of chemical tanker orders globally.
