ABB announced on the 16th (local time) that it has received an order to supply power and automation systems for two offshore accommodation vessels.

The two vessels are being built by Nantong COSCO KHI Ship Engineering Co., Ltd. for Logitel Offshore in Singapore. One vessel is confirmed, with an option for a second. They have a maximum load capacity of 40,000 tons and can accommodate more than 490 people.

ABB will supply six Azipod® CZ electric propulsion systems, including switchboards, main transformers, propulsion transformers, and frequency converters, as well as an automation system consisting of ship and power monitoring, emergency shutdown, and helideck monitoring systems. Delivery is scheduled for before October 2014.

ABB representatives stated that the installation of their systems will improve fuel efficiency and starting performance for the two offshore accommodation vessels. This is also significant because it marks the first time ABB has received a complete order encompassing power, propulsion, automation, and ship control systems.
