HanTong Shipbuilding Heavy Industry wins bulk carrier order

Jiangsu Hantong Ship Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. has received an order for up to four Ultramax bulk carriers from Spar Shipping, a shipowner based in Bergen, Norway.

According to industry sources, the two companies signed a contract for 2 + 2 optional vessels, scheduled for delivery in 2015.

Although the total contract value was not disclosed, industry estimates put it at approximately US$24-25 million per vessel.

In addition, Jiangsu Hantong Ship Heavy Industry has further accelerated its order intake for small and medium-sized bulk carriers this year. In April this year, it signed a contract with a Japanese shipbuilding company for 3 + 2 optional 64,000 DWT Ultramax bulk carriers; then it received an order for 3 + 2 optional 38,800 DWT Handysize vessels from Peter Dohle, a German shipping company; and it also received an order for up to 8 63,800 DWT bulk carriers from another German shipowner, Conti Reederei.
