On the afternoon of December 7, CSSC Chengxi Shipbuilding Company and Swire Pacific Offshore signed a contract for the construction of four 39,100-ton bulk carriers in Shanghai Ship Trading Company. These four 39,100-ton bulk carriers are a continuation of the four 39,500-ton vessels built earlier this year for Swire Pacific Offshore, and must meet the latest rules and regulations, and be equipped with ballast water treatment systems and deck wood lashing. In the current environment of a persistently sluggish shipping market, the successful signing of this subsequent order of four vessels provides a foundation for achieving the company's goal of mass production of ships and further enhancing product competitiveness. It is understood that these four newly signed vessels will be classed by LR, with delivery scheduled for the latter half of 2014 to the first half of 2015.
On December 14, CSSC Chengxi Shipbuilding Company signed a contract with Ligan Power Plant for the construction of three 48,500-ton bulk carriers. Construction of these three vessels is scheduled to begin next March, with delivery in April 2014. In addition, the company has recently secured an order from Guangzhou Shipping for the construction of one 65,000-ton bulk carrier. Negotiations are underway for contracts to build other types of vessels.
Significant breakthroughs have been achieved in shipbuilding operations, laying a solid foundation for fulfilling the 2013 production plan. However, the prices of newly signed vessels are generally low, so the shipyard must effectively strengthen cost control and improve efficiency during the construction process.
