Recently, the Jiangsu Provincial Government's work report included the promotion of the construction of characteristic bases such as the Nantong marine engineering platform. Rongsheng Heavy Industries Group President Chen Qiang stated that the Rongsheng Nantong base undertakes the business of two major sectors: heavy industry shipbuilding and marine engineering. It not only boasts the largest single shipbuilding plant in China but is also one of the most advanced marine equipment manufacturing bases in the country. He indicated that as an important platform for the company's transformation and upgrading, marine engineering has become a significant pillar among Rongsheng Heavy Industries' four major sectors. The recent successful construction of the world's first 3000-meter deep-water pipelaying crane ship for CNOOC signifies Rongsheng Heavy Industries' entry into the high-end marine engineering manufacturing field. Chen Qiang suggested that Nantong should focus on leading enterprises, proactively conduct research and development, and industrialize marine engineering equipment, develop high-tech, high-value-added ships and marine engineering equipment, actively expand the upstream and downstream industrial chain, and develop a shipbuilding and marine engineering equipment industrial base that integrates R&D design, high-end manufacturing, and supporting services.
Nantong COSCO Shipping Shipyard General Manager Ni Tao stated that the global market for marine engineering products is enormous, and the country also strongly supports its development, presenting significant opportunities for their marine engineering manufacturing business. All employees of Nantong COSCO Shipping Shipyard will seize this opportunity, track international hot marine engineering projects, and simultaneously engage in strategic cooperation with major domestic oil companies (such as CNOOC) to expand the domestic marine engineering market. This year, they aim to secure an additional US$2 billion in new orders.
