Following a strong return to the chemical tanker market in February with 16 large orders, Nantong Xiangyu Haizhuang's flagship vessel type—the Ultramax bulk carrier—has also started receiving orders.
On March 12, Xiangyu Haizhuang signed a contract with Xiamen Jinzu and COSCO Shipping Bulk to build eight 64,000 DWT bulk carriers with methanol-ready capabilities. Lin Junjie, Vice President of Xiangyu Group and Chairman of Xiangyu Haizhuang; Wu Ji, President of Xiamen Financial Leasing Co., Ltd.; Chen Yan, Deputy General Manager of COSCO Shipping Bulk; and Zeng Huawen, Director of the Xiangyu Park Management Bureau of the Xiamen Pilot Free Trade Zone, attended and spoke at the event. The event was chaired by Qin Weimin, Party Secretary and General Manager of the company.
This is Xiangyu Haigong's first order for methanol-ready bulk carriers. It is understood that the eight 64,000 DWT methanol-ready combination carriers signed this time use new ship materials and technologies, and are designed to use methanol fuel for clean fuel. Compared with similar ships at home and abroad, they have a larger carrying capacity, lower fuel consumption, and are more environmentally friendly, bringing greater economic benefits to shipowners.
Xiangyu Haizhuang did not disclose specific information such as order price and delivery time. For reference, Clarkson data shows that the price of a new 61,000-64,500 DWT Ultramax bulk carrier is currently US$33.75 million, a 4% increase compared to US$32.5 million in the same period last year.
Lin Junjie, Vice President of Xiangyu Group and Chairman of Xiangyu Haizhuang, expressed his sincere gratitude to the guests who fully recognized and supported the development of Xiangyu Haizhuang's business. He mentioned that over the past seven years, Xiangyu Haizhuang has leveraged the platform and resources of Xiangyu Group to achieve diversified and leapfrog development, building a strong reputation for Xiangyu in the shipbuilding industry. This signing marks an important milestone for Xiangyu Haizhuang in expanding its customer channels and increasing its market share, and it is also an important opportunity for Xiamen Jinzu to expand into the shipping sector. Both sides fully leverage the synergistic advantages of the group's industries to achieve mutual benefit and win-win results. COSCO Shipping Bulk's self-owned dry bulk shipping capacity ranks first in the world. With its rich shipping experience and strong operational capabilities, these eight methanol-ready combination carriers will surely win more customers and create greater value with their high-quality service and excellent performance. It is hoped that this signing will mark the beginning of a new journey with Xiamen Jinzu and COSCO Shipping Bulk, sailing towards a broader future in the vast ocean of the shipbuilding market!
Chen Yan, Deputy General Manager of COSCO Shipping Bulk, said that Xiamen Xiangyu Group is an important partner of COSCO Shipping Bulk, and the two sides maintain a good and stable cooperative relationship in international trade and ore transportation. This cooperation on eight newly built 64,000-ton methanol-ready combination carriers integrates the unique advantages of both sides in shipbuilding, financing, and ship operation and management, creating a new cooperation model that will further enhance mutual trust and deepen win-win cooperation, and will surely become a model for similar projects in the market.
Wu Ji, President of Xiamen Jinzu, said that Xiangyu Haizhuang, as a leader in the shipbuilding industry, has won the trust of shipping companies at home and abroad with its superb technology, strict quality management, and excellent service. The contract for the construction of eight methanol-ready combination carriers signed this time is a powerful crystallization of the strong cooperation among multiple parties, and it is also an important measure for Xiamen Jinzu to promote the development of green shipping. It is believed that through the joint efforts of the three parties, safe, reliable, and environmentally friendly ships and shipping systems will be created, making greater contributions to the prosperity and development of global trade.
Xiangyu Haizhuang stated that in recent years, the company has followed the development trend of green and low-carbon shipping, seized market opportunities, cultivated the bulk carrier market, and focused on technological innovation and process optimization. Currently, the company's total orders for Ultramax series vessels have exceeded 100, ranking first among Chinese shipyards.
It is worth mentioning that, according to Clarkson data, in the 40,000-69,999 DWT handysize bulk carrier segment, Xiangyu Haizhuang has the highest number of orders globally, with a total of 52 vessels, far ahead of the second-ranked New Century Shipbuilding (44 vessels) and the third-ranked Japan's Oshima Shipbuilding (27 vessels). This does not include the newly received eight orders.
Xiangyu Haizhuang has achieved a successful start to the first quarter with its practical actions and results. Going forward, the company will further increase its proactive layout and forward-looking investment in green and intelligent transformation, accelerate the technological breakthroughs in low-carbon and zero-carbon fuel, continuously deepen lean shipbuilding, and promote the optimization and upgrading of new-generation bulk carriers. All employees of the company will work with 100% energy and strive to achieve high-quality development acceleration, achieving a simultaneous increase in the quantity and quality of operations and management, and striding forward to push high-quality development to a new level.
