Wang Zeming and Jiang Fuhai jointly signed a construction contract for 9000-vehicle-class methanol-ready car carrier vessels.

On the eve of May Day, COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry Nanjing Jinling Shipyard held a signing ceremony for the construction contract of four 9000-vehicle-class methanol-ready car carrier vessels with SAIC Anji Logistics Co., Ltd.

Wang Zeming, General Manager of SAIC Anji Logistics Co., Ltd. and Chairman of Anji Shipping; Xin Jianmin, Deputy General Manager of SAIC Anji Logistics Co., Ltd. and General Manager of Anji Shipping; Zhou Zhiyong, Deputy Director of Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute; Li Kunlun, Deputy Chief Engineer of Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute; Chen Keng, Global Vice President of DNV; Zhang Dongbiao, Deputy General Manager of Jiangsu Branch of China Classification Society; Jiang Fuhai, Assistant General Manager of COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry and Party Secretary/General Manager of Nanjing Jinling; Ding Jianliang, Executive Deputy General Manager of Nanjing Jinling; and other leaders and guests attended the signing ceremony.

The amount of this order has not been disclosed, but referring to the previous agreement signed between COSCO Shipping and COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry for four 9000-vehicle-class methanol dual-fuel ro-ro vessels, the construction cost of each vessel is approximately US$96 million, totaling US$384 million (approximately RMB 2.654 billion) for four vessels.

The 9000-vehicle-class methanol-ready car carrier vessels signed this time were custom-developed by Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute (SDARI) for SAIC Anji. The vessels have an overall length of 228.00 meters, a width of 37.80 meters, a depth of 15.40 meters, a design draft of 10.30 meters, and are equipped with a single propeller and a bow thruster; they are classed by DNV and CCS, fly the five-star red flag, and the main and auxiliary engines are equipped with SCR, while the main and auxiliary engines and boilers are equipped with SCRUBBER to meet Tier III emission requirements. The main and auxiliary engines and boilers of this vessel can be retrofitted to use methanol fuel, resulting in lower emissions and a future-oriented design, providing a clear path towards achieving decarbonization goals.

SAIC Anji Logistics focuses on automotive logistics business. It is the largest domestic and internationally leading third-party automotive logistics provider, steadily promoting the empowerment of international business with domestic full-chain services and omnichannel operation capabilities. Its distribution network now covers more than 600 cities in China and more than 100 countries overseas, providing customers with intelligent, integrated, and networked automotive logistics supply chain services, setting a new benchmark for high-tech logistics enterprises.

Nanjing Jinling, as a single champion in the manufacturing of ro-ro vessels, upholds the mission of "promoting industry progress with advanced manufacturing." Its concepts are highly consistent with those of SAIC Anji Logistics in the construction of car carrier vessels. The two sides have established a close and long-term cooperative relationship based on "sincere cooperation and lasting development".

From 2016 to 2019, Nanjing Jinling has successively built and delivered 2000-vehicle, 2300-vehicle, and 3800-vehicle car carrier ro-ro vessels for SAIC Anji Logistics. The first 3800-vehicle car carrier, "Anji 23," delivered in 2017, was praised by the media as the "most beautiful car carrier in history" due to its intelligent design and manufacturing, and was selected for the Royal Institution of Naval Architects' 2017 Outstanding Ship Design List. This renewed cooperation marks another fruitful harvest of win-win cooperation and lays a solid foundation for further deepening future cooperation in "national cars, national transportation, and national shipbuilding".

In recent years, under the overall planning of COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry, Nanjing Jinling has cultivated the ro-ro vessel segment, developing ro-ro vessels into "flagship" and advantageous products, continuously expanding the company's reputation and international competitiveness. Since 2000, it has delivered a total of 58 ro-ro vessels (including 19 car carriers) to domestic and foreign shipowners. The company's product structure shows a trend of "three arrows in one": cargo ro-ro vessels, car ro-ro vessels, and passenger ro-ro vessels, leading the global ro-ro vessel construction field and becoming the preferred manufacturer of well-known shipowners at home and abroad.

Relevant personnel from Anji Shipping Co., Ltd., Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute, DNV, Jiangsu Branch of China Classification Society, and Nanjing Jinling attended the signing ceremony.
