At 3:58 PM on February 20, the 51st 82,000-ton bulk carrier successfully launched by China Shipbuilding Group's subsidiary, CSSC Chengxi Ship Repair and Construction Co., Ltd., marks the successful start of the company's 2023 shipbuilding "eight batches" first batch, signaling the full acceleration of the company's shipbuilding production.
The 51st 82,000-ton bulk carrier is the first vessel built by CSSC Chengxi for the Greek shipowner Prodigy. This is a main construction vessel type launched according to a new design concept. The vessel has an overall length of 229 meters, a molded breadth of 32.26 meters, a molded depth of 20.35 meters, a design draft of 12.2 meters, a service speed of 14 knots, meets the International Maritime Organization Tier III emission standards, and is equipped with a high-pressure denitrification SCR system. It is classed by Bureau Veritas (BV). The ship's design standardization scope and shipbuilding modeling indicators have been significantly improved compared to previous bulk carriers.
To ensure the on-time launch of the vessel, the project team worked with a sense of urgency, focusing on the countdown, using the assembly diagram, and keeping the responsibility in mind. Aiming for the target, they worked hard, and all members of the shipbuilding line launched a "tough battle" of production, accelerating the output of sections and achieving the small goal of "one-stop" hull assembly on "Little New Year's Eve" before the Spring Festival. During the Spring Festival, various production activities on the slipway continued without interruption, continuously advancing the structure and stern engineering. After the resumption of work after the Spring Festival holiday, the shipbuilding line's production pace continued to accelerate, taking the posture of "sprint from the start, decisive battle from the beginning" to lead the production boom, comprehensively promoting various projects on the slipway, and the appearance of the vessel changed "a little every day, a big change every three days"; On February 11, the scaffolding and painting teams gathered resources from multiple parties and quickly entered the scene. In the face of persistent unpredictable rainy weather, they seized every opportunity to advance painting operations and successfully completed the "new outfit" project before the launch of the vessel.
At 4:08 PM, the first section of the 53rd 82,000-ton bulk carrier, also built by CSSC Chengxi for the Greek shipowner Prodigy, was placed on the slipway, and continuous assembly began.
