On the morning of January 29th, the eighth day of the Lunar New Year, as the N8 crane at berth No. 15 of Rizhao Port unloaded the last bucket of iron ore from the "Nansha Glory" vessel, which originated from the Port of Madeira, Brazil, COSCO SHIPPING Bulk's China Mining Transportation ushered in a historic moment at the beginning of the Year of the Rabbit: Since its establishment in 2015, China Mining Transportation has surpassed 100 million tons in cumulative freight volume in cooperation with Vale of Brazil! This milestone reflects China Mining Transportation's dedicated service in adhering to its major customer strategy, its diligent efforts along the Belt and Road, and the fruitful results achieved through collaboration with its partners.
Embarking on the "Era of Large Vessels" to Promote Mutual Benefit and Win-Win Cooperation
On May 19, 2015, witnessed by the leaders of China and Brazil, China Mining Transportation Co., Ltd. and Vale (International) Co., Ltd. signed a ship purchase agreement and an iron ore charter contract, with four first-generation VALEMAX ore carriers officially joining the company's fleet. Since then, the company has officially entered the "era of large vessels," marking a new step in the company's "ship-to-cargo" development model. Over seven and a half years, China Mining Transportation has incorporated 18 large ore carriers into its fleet, becoming an important partner of Vale, a major iron ore shipper in the world; over seven and a half years, generations of China Mining Transportation employees have remained true to their original aspirations, working tirelessly, taking root overseas, and serving the company's cause; over seven and a half years, China Mining Transportation has demonstrated courage and responsibility, striving for excellence, and creating value with its customers.
China Mining Transportation is deeply integrated into its customers' supply chains, overcoming challenges, honing its skills, and strengthening management to become the most reliable operational service provider in the supply chain. In its cooperation with customers, China Mining Transportation has started from the details, controlled the minutiae, and focused on key areas, striving to overcome bottlenecks and difficulties in the customers' supply chains. Taking the improvement of cargo capacity of the first-generation VALEMAX ore carriers as an example, due to the lack of damage stability calculation function in the ship's loading instrument, when loading iron ore with a large stowage factor, the ship could not reach full load due to the minimum stability value limit of the loading instrument. After understanding the customer's concerns about the loading capacity, China Mining Transportation immediately upgraded the software and computer of the loading instrument of the first-generation VALEMAX ore carriers and completed the review by the classification society. After the upgrade, the single voyage cargo capacity of the ship carrying iron ore with a large stowage factor can be increased by more than 10,000 tons, which not only helps customers increase the cargo transportation volume per ship and voyage, but also improves the ship's voyage efficiency.
Meanwhile, for the 325K ore carriers in operation, China Mining Transportation focuses on lean management and meticulous operation, scientifically and reasonably optimizing the ship's oil and water reserves, overcoming the influence of ship constants and cargo loading, striving to improve the ship's cargo loading capacity, and ensuring that the customer's cargo transportation volume per ship and voyage exceeds 318,000 tons, helping customers improve terminal operating efficiency and annual mine output.
Adhering to Customer First to Provide Superior Service
China Mining Transportation has always followed the overall strategic deployment of the Group and the Bulk Shipping Headquarters, actively promoting the "major customer" strategy, building a customer service platform, innovating and expanding service measures, striving to improve operational levels, and continuously providing customers with "professional, customized, and personalized" services. In response to the IMO 2020 sulfur cap and the rising cost of low-sulfur fuel, customers requested the installation of desulfurization equipment on China Mining Transportation's ore carriers, subject to compliance with international environmental regulations and relevant international conventions. After understanding the customer's needs, China Mining Transportation actively conducted scientific assessments of relevant technologies and equipment, and collaborated with customers to compare and analyze relevant equipment, manufacturers, and shipyards to determine the optimal desulfurization technology solution and promote ship yard modifications. China Mining Transportation also actively collaborated with relevant units and ships to provide maintenance and use training for the installed desulfurization equipment, improving the meticulousness of daily maintenance, helping customers reduce maintenance costs and consumption. In addition, China Mining Transportation collaborated with customers to implement the concept of green development and share social responsibility, actively exploring and promoting carbon reduction, emission reduction, and energy efficiency improvement work for its ships. Due to the impact of the rainy season in the first half of the year in Brazilian loading ports, the moisture content of the shipped goods was relatively high. Based on the principle of serving major strategic customers, and considering the operational safety and risk control of the ships, China Mining Transportation actively cooperated with and met the customer's needs for shipping iron ore with special moisture content, and assisted the customer's terminal in conducting flexible loading tests for rainy season cargo, improving and perfecting the corresponding cargo loading process. From 2020 to the present, at the request of customers, China Mining Transportation, with the concerted efforts of relevant departments of the Bulk Shipping Headquarters, has safely and successfully completed 27 voyages of transporting iron ore with special moisture content, receiving positive feedback and recognition from customers.
Since its establishment, China Mining Transportation has actively responded to customer needs, overcome the challenges of the epidemic and technology, and made every effort to overcome difficulties, repeatedly breaking records for the maximum cargo volume, maximum deadweight tonnage, and maximum draft of ultra-large dry bulk carriers calling at various ports, achieving multiple "firsts" for its ships while further consolidating the value foundation of serving customers and achieving win-win results for all parties.

At the same time, China Mining Transportation, together with Vale, overcame the adverse effects of internal and external factors intertwined since the COVID-19 pandemic, and shared social responsibility. During the COVID-19 pandemic, with the understanding and support of customers, China Mining Transportation and the ship management department completed a total of 130 voyages and crew changes for more than 3,000 crew members, achieving zero infections among crew members on board. The company and its customers' mutual assistance demonstrated their commitment to caring for seafarers.
