Cargotec's MacGregor recently announced it has received an order to supply container lashing systems for Hapag-Lloyd's 12 new 23,500 TEU ultra-large container vessels.

These new vessels are reportedly being built by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering in South Korea and are scheduled for delivery between the second quarter of 2023 and the fourth quarter of 2024. The order was booked in Cargotec's third-quarter 2022 order intake.

Magnus Sjöberg, Senior Vice President, MacGregor Merchant Solutions, commented: "Hapag-Lloyd is a highly valued strategic customer for MacGregor, and we have worked closely together for many years to find ways to improve cargo efficiency on existing and newbuild vessels. In this project, we collaborated from the very beginning on the concept design and cargo system configuration, and we are proud that Hapag-Lloyd has entrusted us with this order."

Hapag-Lloyd, currently the world's fifth-largest container shipping company, operates a fleet of 253 container vessels with a total capacity of 1.8 million TEU. The company stated: "Cargo systems play a very important role in the efficient operation of container vessels, and we have worked closely with MacGregor to develop the optimal cargo system for this series of new vessels to ensure optimal cargo efficiency. Placing the order with MacGregor was our preferred choice."
