On September 14, China Shipbuilding Industry Trading Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Shipbuilding Group Corporation, and Jiangnan Shipyard (Group) Co., Ltd. successfully delivered the CMA CGM GREENLAND (H2658), a 15000TEU dual-fuel container ship built for CMA CGM Group.

This marks the successful delivery of all five 15000TEU dual-fuel container ships and five conventional 15000TEU container ships built by China Shipbuilding Group for CMA CGM over a period of three years and six months, signifying the successful completion of the 10 15000TEU container ship project witnessed by the heads of state of China and France.

The CMA CGM Greenland measures 366 meters in length, 51 meters in width, has a service speed of 22 knots, a cargo capacity of 15254 TEU, and can carry 1800 refrigerated containers. This type of vessel uses a WinGD LNG dual-fuel main engine, an independent brand of China Shipbuilding Group, with LNG as the primary fuel. It is equipped with a GTT MARK Ⅲ membrane-type fuel tank with a capacity of 14000 cubic meters, enabling the vessel to travel any route.

In March 2019, coinciding with the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France, China Shipbuilding Group and the French CMA CGM Group signed a strategic cooperation agreement for five 15000TEU dual-fuel container ships and five conventional 15000TEU container ships, witnessed by the heads of state of both countries. The five dual-fuel ships were built at Jiangnan Shipyard under China Shipbuilding Group, and the five conventional ships were built at Hudong-Zhonghua Shipyard. This project not only opened a new chapter in the cooperation between China Shipbuilding Group and CMA CGM Group but also marked the entry of China's shipbuilding industry, particularly in the container sector, into a new era comparable to South Korean shipbuilders.

In this project, Jiangnan Shipyard independently built the MARK III LNG fuel tank for the first time and conducted sea trials using both gas and oil for the first time. During the implementation of this pioneering project, China Shipbuilding Trading and Jiangnan Shipyard continuously optimized the plan and held numerous video conferences with the ship owner, laying a solid foundation for the successful implementation of the project. The successful completion of this pioneering project has also solidified Jiangnan Shipyard's leading position in the construction of LNG-powered vessels.

The successful delivery of the CMA CGM Greenland marks the successful completion of the project witnessed by the heads of state of China and France. China Shipbuilding Trading and Jiangnan Shipyard have also demonstrated to the international shipping market the brand influence and high-quality, on-time delivery capabilities of China Shipbuilding Group, laying a solid foundation for further cultivation of the international market.

In recent years, China Shipbuilding Group and CMA CGM have continued to cooperate in the field of ultra-large container ships, contributing to China's implementation of the strategies for a strong maritime nation and a strong manufacturing nation, as well as the Belt and Road Initiative, laying a more solid foundation for China's high-end marine equipment manufacturing to transition from 'following' to 'leading'.

It is understood that CMA CGM ordered two 18000TEU container ships in 2013, four 23000TEU dual-fuel container ships in 2017, and five 15000TEU dual-fuel container ships in 2019 from Jiangnan Shipyard. The delivery of these various types of ships has given CMA CGM a full understanding of Jiangnan Shipyard's construction capabilities and management level, and the two sides have established a friendly, harmonious, and trusting cooperative relationship. In late March last year, CMA CGM proposed a future route strategic plan, considering ordering six more 15000TEU dual-fuel large container ships through global bidding. CMA CGM selected Jiangnan Shipyard as its preferred partner. During the negotiations, China Shipbuilding Trading and Jiangnan Shipyard worked closely together, actively following up, and providing a series of high-standard shipbuilding and technological upgrading plans, which were highly recognized by CMA CGM, ultimately leading to a successful signing. This is the fourth cooperation between CMA CGM and Jiangnan Shipyard.

Currently, Jiangnan Shipyard has accumulated rich design and construction experience in the field of large and medium-sized container ship construction, especially in the field of green dual-fuel container ships. Dual-fuel large container ships have become one of its main products and have received unanimous praise from ship owners and the industry.
