Recently, The "13th Five-Year Plan" national key research and development project of the Ministry of Science and Technology, "Research and Development of Full-Ocean-Depth Geological Winch System," undertaken by Dalian Maritime University in collaboration with Nantong Liwei Machinery Co., Ltd. and other units, successfully developed the full-ocean-depth geological winch system "Haiwei," which recently completed its first deep-sea survey mission in international waters aboard the "Xiangyanghong 06" vessel of the Natural Resources Ministry's Beihai Bureau. 06 The core components of "Haiwei" are all domestically produced. During this voyage, geological sampling operations reached a water depth of 7762 meters, and the biological trawl cable length reached 11000 meters. Multiple deep-sea samples were obtained from various stations, fully verifying the operational capabilities of the domestically produced deep-sea winch system and breaking the monopoly of foreign equipment.

As the basic carrier for marine investigation and research, research vessels represent a nation's comprehensive national strength, and their equipment level directly relates to the country's marine scientific and technological strength. Deep-sea geological winch systems are used for the deployment and recovery of deep-sea geological sampling instruments and are essential equipment for oceanographic research vessels. Currently, almost all geological winch systems used on domestic deep-sea research vessels are imported from developed countries such as Norway, which restricts the development of supporting equipment for China's research vessels. Therefore, the independent research and development of domestically produced full-ocean-depth geological winch systems is urgently needed.

2018 Year 8 Month, recommended by the Ministry of Transport, the national key research and development project "Research and Development of Full-Ocean-Depth Geological Winch System," a key project under the "Deep-sea Key Technologies and Equipment" special project led by Nantong Liwei Machinery Co., Ltd., was approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology. Professor Li Wenhua's team from Dalian Maritime University participated in the entire research process of this project. Relying on the Ministry of Science and Technology's "International Joint Research Center for Underwater Engineering Technology and Equipment," the Liaoning Provincial Key Laboratory of Ship Electromechanical Integration, and the Dalian Municipal Engineering Technology Research Center for Marine Equipment at Dalian Maritime University, and the existing technological foundation of Nantong Liwei Machinery Co., Ltd., in collaboration with the 708th Research Institute of China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation, Harbin Engineering University, the 710th Research Institute of China Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Group Co., Ltd., Shanghai Rainbowfish Marine Technology Co., Ltd., Zhejiang Sxiong Rope Industry Co., Ltd., and Juli Rigging Co., Ltd., after 2 years of collaborative technological research and development, solved problems such as excessive self-weight of traditional steel cables, easy wear and tear of cables, and disordered winding of large-capacity cables in deep-sea scientific research operations. Breakthroughs were achieved in structural design and optimization technology for full-ocean-depth geological winch systems, high-performance, large-load traction winch tension reduction technology, rapid compensation response technology for cable slack compensators, adaptive multi-redundancy precise control technology for cable payout devices, and high-precision system integration and intelligent control technology. In 2020 Year 12 Month, the full-ocean-depth geological winch system "Haiwei" was successfully manufactured and successfully passed the on-shore joint debugging test in the workshop, subsequently installed on the "Xiangyanghong 06 vessel of the Natural Resources Ministry's Beihai Bureau, and successfully conducted multiple sampling demonstration applications at water depths of 4 000-6000 meters, achieving a sampling success rate of 100%。

The project leader, Professor Li Wenhua of the Department of Marine Engineering at Dalian Maritime University, introduced, " 'Haiwei' has a maximum operating water depth of 11000 meters and can conduct geological sampling operations at the maximum depth in all sea areas worldwide. The system's performance and technical indicators have fully met and in some aspects exceeded those of similar mainstream foreign products, becoming the first full-ocean-depth geological winch system in China with dual certification from the China Classification Society ( C CS ) and the American Bureau of Shipping ( A BS ), as well as the first domestically produced 13000 meter seamless synthetic fiber cable in China. The overall system domestication rate is ≥ 95% %, and the domestication rate of key core components is 100% %, fully achieving independent control. Next, "Haiwei" will conduct regular deep-sea survey operations aboard the "Xiangyanghong 06 vessel to provide technological support for China's deep-sea resource development and utilization, the construction of a strong transportation and maritime nation, and reliable guarantees for China's marine scientific research endeavors to "go to the oceans, go to the deep sea, and go to the polar regions."
