Recently, CIMC Raffles and Swedish shipping giant Wallenius Lines signed a contract for the construction of 2+2+2 next-generation 6500-car dual-fuel car carriers through a "cloud signing" ceremony. Wang Jianzhong, CEO and President of CIMC Raffles, and Kleberg Jonas, Chairman and CEO of Soya Group and Wallenius Lines, signed on behalf of their respective companies, witnessed by management and project teams from both companies. This marks another collaboration between the two companies based on their previous successful partnership and will further enhance CIMC Raffles' competitiveness in the international ro-ro shipping market. The project will be built at CIMC Raffles' Longkou facility, which houses China's first intelligent production line for ro-ro and special vessels based on laser-hybrid welding equipment.
The concept design of this series of vessels comes from the renowned Danish design company Knud E. Hansen, leading the market in emissions, hull design, and ship systems. CIMC Raffles will undertake the overall construction, and the vessels will fly the Swedish flag. The ships will be 200 meters long, 37 meters wide, with a capacity of 6500 cars, and a service speed of 19 knots. To meet environmental requirements, they will be equipped with one type-C LNG tank and related gas supply systems.
Wallenius Lines pioneered the ro-ro concept in the 1960s and has since become a leading investor and active ship owner in the global shipping industry, particularly in the international automotive and ro-ro sectors, where Wallenius has become an industry benchmark. Two years ago, CIMC Raffles and Wallenius Lines' joint venture, Wallenius SOL AB, signed a contract in Stockholm for the construction of two dual-fuel ice-class ro-ro vessels. During the project construction, the CIMC Raffles project team overcame challenges such as the international pandemic, working closely with the Wallenius project team. CIMC Raffles' lean project management and advanced design and construction capabilities earned Wallenius' full recognition, deepening mutual trust and laying a solid foundation for future in-depth cooperation.
Kleberg Jonas stated in his speech: "Today is a big day for Wallenius. We have chosen our partner for the next generation of low-emission car carriers. Wallenius has always been committed to working with excellent and long-term partners, and we believe CIMC Raffles is the best choice. We are also committed to developing new innovative car transportation concepts and promoting logistics solutions, continuing to lead the industry and market with our partners."
Wang Jianzhong stated that the global trend towards emission reduction and low carbon emissions presents new demands for clean energy. Our partner Wallenius is highly forward-looking, seizing the strategic opportunity of LNG fuel power in a timely manner, pioneering innovation in the field of green shipping. Their strategic vision and sense of social responsibility are admirable. CIMC Raffles is also a firm practitioner of green development, committed to designing and building various types of advanced clean energy equipment. Ro-ro vessels are one of our key business areas. We have invested in an internationally advanced laser-hybrid welding production line in Longkou, which has been successfully applied in previous ro-ro vessel projects. We look forward to CIMC Raffles becoming Wallenius' long-term cooperation base in China, working together to contribute new strength to the world's low-emission and green shipping."
