ARWU has been officially reported by world-renowned universities such as Cambridge University and Stanford University; world's top 100 universities such as the University of Manchester and the University of Western Australia have also set improving their ARWU ranking as a clear goal of their school's strategic planning. The "China University Ranking (formerly China's Best Universities Ranking)", "China's Best Subject Ranking", and "Global Ranking of Academic Subjects" regularly released by ShanghaiRanking each year have received attention and reports from authoritative domestic media such as Guangming Daily and China Education News. The objectivity and persuasiveness of the ranking indicators and methods have been publicly and highly recognized by renowned experts in higher education in China.

"ShanghaiRanking Global Ranking of Academic Subjects" uses the 30 authoritative academic awards, 151 top disciplinary journals, and 22 top academic conferences in computer science and engineering obtained from the "Academic Excellence Survey" as important dimensions for measuring the academic performance of universities. The "Academic Excellence Survey" targets deans, department heads, team leaders, and full professors from the world's top 100 universities, namely top scholars in various disciplines worldwide. Unlike common reputation surveys, ShanghaiRanking's "Academic Excellence Survey" invites scholars to recommend and nominate top publications and authoritative awards in their disciplines that they are very familiar with. To ensure the transparency and quality of the survey, all participating scholars must agree to disclose their names and affiliations. Many well-known Chinese scholars also participated in this questionnaire survey. Details of the "Academic Excellence Survey" can be found on ShanghaiRanking's English website.
