On June 10, China Merchants Industry Group and Norway's Offshore Heavy Transport (OHT) held a signing ceremony for the construction contract of 1+1+1+1 48000T semi-submersible heavy lift vessels at China Merchants Heavy Industry (Jiangsu) Co., Ltd. Zhu Guiming, Deputy General Manager of China Merchants Industry Group, attended the signing ceremony and signed on behalf of China Merchants Industry.

OHT, a Norwegian company specializing in the transportation of large offshore items (such as drilling platforms, Liftboats, offshore oil and gas equipment, modules, etc.). The company is among the world's leaders in the transportation of self-elevating drilling platforms and Liftboats, and has transported the world's largest self-elevating drilling platform, CJ70.

The newly signed vessels have the functions of offshore heavy lifting and offshore equipment transportation. They are equipped with a DP2 dynamic positioning system and a 3000T crane, featuring strong offshore lifting capacity, large carrying capacity, high speed, fast ballasting, and energy efficiency and environmental protection. Various indicators are leading in the market among similar products.

Currently, OHT's fleet owns 5 semi-submersible heavy lift vessels: "Hawk", "Osprey", "Albatross", "Falcon", and "Eagle", with an average age of 31 years. The construction of these semi-submersible heavy lift vessels is expected to significantly optimize OHT's existing aging heavy lift fleet.

The OHT project will officially take effect later this month; On May 31, China Merchants Industry signed and put into effect a construction contract with Sunstone shipowner in France for the construction of the second and third polar expedition cruise ships. These two signings represent another major breakthrough in China Merchants Industry's development in the offshore engineering and cruise industries.

After the signing ceremony, Wang Cujun, Deputy General Manager of China Merchants Group, held strategic talks with Mr. Torgeir Ramstad, CEO of OHT. Mr. Wang mainly introduced China Merchants Industry's strategic planning, product development, and market positioning in the offshore engineering manufacturing sector. Mr. Torgeir Ramstad introduced OHT's development, achievements, and competitive advantages in the heavy lift transportation field. Both sides conducted in-depth exchanges on the project's progress and potential future cooperation, and looked forward to deeper cooperation, especially in the research and development of offshore engineering equipment.
