On November 6, Hudong-Zhonghua launched the construction of a 174,000 cubic meter LNG carrier at Jiangnan Changxing Shipyard, marking the entry of China's independently designed LNG carriers into the fourth generation. He Jianghua, chief builder of Hudong-Zhonghua LNG carriers, presided over the groundbreaking ceremony. Attendees included Jean-François Ery, Director of Trade and Shipping; Zhang Jun, Deputy Director of Trade and Shipping; Hashimoto Tsuyoshi, Executive Director of Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd.; Kawagoe Yoshikazu, Managing Director of Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd.; Zhuang Deping, General Manager of COSCO SHIPPING LNG Investment (Shanghai) Co., Ltd.; Gao Guangqiang, Deputy General Manager of COSCO SHIPPING LNG Investment (Shanghai) Co., Ltd.; Wu Fangzheng, Chairman and President of Beijing Jin'anjie Energy Saving Technology Co., Ltd.; Xue Maogen, President of Greater China, Lloyd's Register; Nicholas, Director of Ship Operation, Lloyd's Register; Xu Li, Deputy General Manager of Shanghai Branch of China Classification Society; Xu Jian, Assistant General Manager of China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation; Chen Jun, General Manager of Hudong-Zhonghua; and Chi Benbin, Deputy General Manager of Hudong-Zhonghua. In June this year, Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding outcompeted Japanese and South Korean shipbuilders and officially signed a contract with Japan's Mitsui O.S.K. Lines for the construction of four 174,000 cubic meter LNG carriers. The total contract value exceeds 5 billion RMB. The 174,000 cubic meter LNG carrier under construction is the first vessel of this order and also the fourth-generation LNG carrier built by Hudong-Zhonghua. This vessel, independently developed and designed by Hudong-Zhonghua, measures 295 meters in length, 45 meters in width, and has a design draft of 11.5 meters. It is a newly upgraded low-energy consumption, low-boil-off rate, green and ecological vessel. The new generation of cargo tank insulation system boasts a boil-off rate of only 0.1%, representing a more than 30% improvement in low-temperature insulation performance compared to the previous generation of LNG carriers. The world's latest generation of dual-fuel power system can reduce the daily fuel oil consumption of the main engine to within 100 tons, resulting in a 16% reduction in energy consumption. The ship is equipped with advanced environmental protection devices, ensuring customer satisfaction whether operating in gas or oil mode. Hudong-Zhonghua has already built three generations of 15 large LNG carriers with independent intellectual property rights. Hudong-Zhonghua's innovative strides in the R&D of LNG industry chain equipment are unwavering. The launch of the fourth-generation LNG carrier demonstrates the transition of "Made in China" to "Created in China". Ery stated that this series of four vessels represents the most advanced LNG carriers currently available, integrating world-first technologies and effectively reducing energy consumption. The commencement of construction of the first vessel will once again showcase the superior capabilities of Chinese manufacturing to the world. This vessel type is a significant achievement resulting from years of collaboration among Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, COSCO SHIPPING, and Hudong-Zhonghua. It significantly expands the depth and breadth of China's shipbuilding industry's LNG equipment industrialization capabilities and enhances China's competitiveness in the LNG carrier market. The ship owner firmly believes that Hudong-Zhonghua possesses the capability to deliver four world-class LNG carriers on schedule, completing this landmark project.
