Yangtze River Shipbuilding delivers its first 3800TEU container ship

2017-09-01 09:00

On the morning of August 31, Yangtze River Shipbuilding The first 3800TEU container ship “POLAR MEXICO” slowly departed from the Xin Yangzi Wharf and began its maiden voyage.

With the number of refrigerated containers at the level of a 10,000-TEU ship refrigerated containers, it can be called the “Rolls-Royce” among medium-sized container ships.

The TEU container ship is a mini ultra-Panamax wide-body container ship with detailed design by Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute (SDARI). The ship is American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) classed and flies the German flag. Based on SDARI's years of research and development of medium-sized container ship series, the ship has been comprehensively optimized and upgraded in terms of lines, layout, structure, and electromechanical aspects, meeting all effective specifications and rules at the time of contract signing, such as CSS CODE, and the ship's performance has reached the internationally advanced level.

The ship's structural draft service speed reaches 19.4 knots, and the cruising range is 18,000 nautical miles; the ship has strong container loading capacity, and can achieve full-box loading with an average container weight of 8 tons. The effective number of 14-ton heavy containers under structural draft reaches 78.2%; at the same time, the refrigerated container loading capacity is strong, with a total of 1000 refrigerated container sockets on the whole ship, and can simultaneously load a maximum of 740 FEU refrigerated containers and 260 TEU refrigerated containers, and meets the requirements of ABS IRCC-SP class notation; the cargo hold adopts a full-height container structure design to meet the shipowner's personalized requirements; the ship's structural design meets the loading form of any 1 BAY empty, improves loading and unloading efficiency, and makes cargo allocation more flexible and convenient; it is equipped with two cranes ,improving the ship's adaptability to different ports; equipped with stress monitoring ,environmental monitoring and ship energy efficiency management systems, real-time monitoring of ship stress, fuel consumption and environmental wave data, ensuring safe navigation.

The 3800-TEU container ship has the number of refrigerated containers at the level of a 10,000-TEU ship, meets the class requirements of IRCC-SP, applies ship intelligence technology, and can be called the “Rolls-Royce” among medium-sized container ships. It is equipped with stress monitoring, environmental monitoring and ship energy efficiency management systems, and real-time monitoring of ship stress, fuel consumption and wave monitoring data to ensure safe navigation.

The ship meets the requirements of the German flag state authorities. The overall performance of the ship is excellent, the equipment configuration is complex and high-end, and it can sail to major ports around the world, and the route planning is flexible and convenient.

There are more than 6000 monitoring alarms control points, making construction more difficult.

This type of ship has a lot of equipment, and a high degree of automation The whole ship has about more than 6000 monitoring, alarm and control points. Not only is the design difficult, but the construction is even more difficult. Due to the large number of equipment, small space, many new systems, and many new requirements, coupled with the hot summer season after sea trials, it brought great difficulties to the construction.

The vessel was launched on April 7, 2017. To ensure that the node plan was completed on time, the project team turned pressure into motivation. The project team members and workshop management personnel fully pressed on to ensure that each project had management personnel throughout the monitoring and coordination. Each shipowner and ship inspector on board had management personnel tracking and reporting throughout the process, especially the ballast water treatment system. Because new equipment was used, the system software had defects in operation. When operating the ballast water treatment system, the pipeline would form a multiple pressure, damaging the ballast pump. In order to solve this defect, the technical department and the electromechanical workshop worked together to verify several improved schemes one by one, and finally selected the best scheme, ensuring that the sea trial was carried out on time on July 18, and also eliminating hidden dangers for the smooth progress of subsequent ships.

Since this ship is the first ship, it has a highly integrated ship monitoring and automation control system ,55 fans in the cargo hold, forming a variable frequency control central system. Through the temperature in the cargo hold fan area sensors and the detection of CO2 concentration sensors in the cargo hold, the cargo hold fans can be automatically adjusted motor frequency and adjust the number of cargo hold fans running, which brought great challenges to electrical debugging. Every time a problem was found, technical personnel could arrive at the scene immediately and work with the workshop and service providers to find solutions, ensuring the smooth delivery of the ship.

Hamburg Süd is Germany's oldest and largest privately owned shipping company. Being able to build a ship that satisfies the shipowner for such a company is enough to prove the shipbuilding strength of Yangtze River Shipbuilding Group. At the same time, the shipowner also stated that with the continuous delivery of subsequent ships, they also hope to have better cooperation with the Yangtze River Group in the future.
