June 16, Jinling Shipyard signed another contract with Danish shipowner DFDS to build two 15,500-ton cargo ro-ro ships. This is a follow-up collaboration after the two parties signed a contract to build two 15,500-ton cargo ro-ro ships last September. The total amount is 1 billion Danish kroner (US$150.5 million), approximately 1 billion yuan.
It is reported that the 16,000-ton cargo ro-ro ship is the largest ro-ro ship built by Jinling Shipyard and one of the largest cargo ro-ro ships to be built in the world. The ship has an overall length of 235 meters, a molded breadth of 33 meters, a speed of 21 knots, and a 6,700-meter lane, capable of transporting approximately 450 vehicles.
These two ships represent a new generation of environmentally friendly ro-ro ships, meeting the requirements of the new IMO EEDI (Energy Efficiency Design Index) regulations, adopting desulfurization towers, ballast water treatment and other energy-saving and environmental protection measures. Its energy and engine power energy consumption and emissions have been significantly reduced. Compared with current standards, the new ships will reduce transportation energy consumption and emissions by more than 25%.
Niels Smedegaard, CEO of DFDS, said that this order is part of the company's new shipbuilding project, which will continuously improve its transportation capacity while enhancing the company's efficiency in continuously serving customers.
Last September, DFDS ordered two ships of the same specification from Jinling Shipyard. According to the production plan, the first 15,500-ton ro-ro ship will start construction at the end of August. Currently, both parties are strengthening cooperation and jointly carrying out preliminary joint design work. These two ro-ro ships are scheduled for delivery in 2020. After delivery, all new ships will be deployed on the operating routes in Northern Europe.
Since the beginning of this year, Jinling Shipyard has been guided by lean production, deepened technological and management innovation, promoted product upgrading and transformation, and implemented the goal of making ro-ro ships, as represented by special ships, a superior and distinctive brand, as proposed by China Merchants Group, consolidating Jinling Shipyard's leading position in the domestic ro-ro ship construction industry and its world-class status.
