During Chinese President Xi Jinping's state visit to Finland, the "quasi-cruise ship" project between Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd. and Viking Line finally concluded.

On April 5, 2017, Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Fujian Shipbuilding Group, signed a 1+1 contract with Viking Line, a renowned Finnish cruise company, for the construction of two 2800-passenger cruise ferries. The contract, worth €194 million (approximately RMB 1.4 billion), marks a first for Fujian Province in undertaking the construction of such vessels and will further boost the development of the province's luxury cruise industry.

Li Zhenjun, Vice General Manager of Fujian Shipbuilding Group, and Mr. Jan Hanses, President of Viking Line, signed the contract for the construction of the 2800-passenger cruise ferries. Zhang Tao, Vice General Manager of Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd., and Mr. Boris Bauer, Vice President and General Manager of DNV-GL's Southern China Region, signed the classification contract for the vessels.

On November 23 last year, Viking Line and Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd. signed a letter of intent for the construction of 1+1 large luxury passenger ships, with delivery expected in the spring of 2020. According to the agreement, both parties would sign the final construction contract in the spring of 2017.

It is understood that the 2800-passenger cruise ferry is currently the world's largest LNG-powered passenger ship and can be considered a near-luxury cruise ship. The ship incorporates environmentally friendly solutions and innovative energy-saving applications, including the installation of two Flettner rotors. The ship is 218 meters long, with a gross tonnage of 63,000, 13 decks, 2800 berths, and can accommodate 400 crew members and service personnel. The vehicle lane is 1500 meters long and can accommodate various vehicles, including large trucks and cars. The interior design is to a luxury cruise ship standard. After delivery, the ship will mainly operate the Turku, Finland - Stockholm, Sweden route.

Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd. has been committed to enhancing its shipbuilding R&D and innovation capabilities, particularly in the field of car carrier construction, where it holds a leading position. The company's advantages in building 2100PCTC, 4900PCTC, and 8500PCTC series car carriers, and its successful delivery of 26 car carriers, have earned it a reputation in the international shipbuilding market and the high recognition of Viking Line, leading to the successful signing of this 2800-passenger cruise ferry construction contract.

Its fleet includes the Gabriella, Mariella, Amorella, Rosella, Viking Cinderella, Viking XPRS, and its flagship, the Viking Grace.
