On August 18, China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC) and COSCO SHIPPING (stock) signed a shipbuilding contract for four 7,500-ton asphalt carriers with COSCO SHIPPING Southern Asphalt Transportation Co., Ltd. The ceremony was attended by senior leaders including Ding Nong, Vice General Manager of COSCO SHIPPING Group; Liu Yifan, General Manager of COSCO SHIPPING Group's Technology and Information Department; Han Guomin, General Manager of COSCO SHIPPING; Li Jianxiong, Deputy General Manager of COSCO SHIPPING; Tan Li, General Manager of COSCO SHIPPING Southern Asphalt Transportation Co., Ltd.; Nan Daqing, Deputy General Manager of China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation; Wang Yongliang, Chairman of CSIC; and Lu Ziyou, General Manager of CSIC.

The newly built 7,500-ton asphalt carriers feature low fuel consumption and long cruising range. Powered by an electronically injected main engine (product library purchase supply) meeting T3 emission standards, they carry the additional mark of a green ship awarded by the classification society. These vessels meet the operational requirements of most domestic and international refinery terminals and unloading ports, suitable for both short- and long-distance asphalt transportation. This enhances COSCO SHIPPING Southern's competitiveness on long-haul routes, particularly those from Singapore and South Korea to Australia, New Zealand, and Pacific island nations, and from Singapore and Thailand to northern Chinese ports, better serving customers. It fills a gap in COSCO SHIPPING's asphalt carrier fleet, optimizing fleet structure, meeting customer needs at all levels, and strengthening the company's market competitiveness.

In recent years, CSIC has focused on asphalt carriers as a key product for development and transformation. Significant progress has been made in asphalt carrier construction. In the past year, CSIC has undertaken contracts for two 7,800-ton asphalt carriers, four 18,600-ton chemical tankers (ship type shipyard sales), and two 37,000-ton asphalt carriers.

The contract for the 37,000-ton asphalt carriers marks CSIC's successful order placement in the asphalt carrier market for two consecutive years, establishing its brand. CSIC now has two asphalt carrier types: 7,500 tons, 7,800 tons, and 37,000 tons, establishing a brand effect in the market. Furthermore, the company is negotiating the construction of 13,000-ton, 17,000-ton, and 22,000-ton asphalt carriers, with potential contracts in the near future.

COSCO SHIPPING Southern Asphalt Transportation Co., Ltd. currently owns 11 asphalt carriers, with two additional 13,000-ton asphalt carriers under construction at Qingdao Wuchuan Heavy Industry (location comments news).
