Nantong Mingde Heavy Industry recently signed a contract with a European shipowner for the construction of seven 24,000-ton stainless steel chemical tankers. This order is the first large-scale order for high-end ship types by shipbuilding enterprises in Nantong City after the international financial crisis.

According to Nantong Net, this signing marks Mingde Heavy Industry's establishment of a leading brand advantage in the global construction of high-tech stainless steel chemical tankers. Mingde Heavy Industry has independent intellectual property rights for this type of vessel. The ship is 174.3 meters long, 26.8 meters wide, 13.7 meters deep, has a design draft of 9.40 meters, a design speed of 14 knots, and has 24 cargo oil compartments. Each compartment has an independent cargo oil operating system, capable of simultaneously loading 24 different liquid cargoes and handling six different cargoes simultaneously. It has good economy and maneuverability. Notably, this stainless steel chemical tanker consumes only 16 tons of fuel per day during operation, a global leading level.

In the world shipbuilding industry, stainless steel chemical tankers are recognized as high-end vessels. To prevent corrosion from acids and alkalis and avoid leakage and pollution, the inner shells of their cargo holds are made of duplex stainless steel. The welding process quality requirements are extremely strict, and the number of pipe systems and valves far exceeds that of the three mainstream ship types. It has the technical characteristics of high construction difficulty and complex outfitting and commissioning. Previously, most shipowners operating this type of vessel preferred to have them built in technologically advanced shipyards in Japan and Europe.

In recent years, Mingde Heavy Industry has targeted high-end customers and high-end ship types, establishing itself in the industry's segmented market through technology and quality, and has successfully delivered multiple Class II chemical tankers. Not long ago, the largest 30,000-ton stainless steel chemical tanker in Asia built by them won the favor of the shipowner, who decided to place another order. It is expected that by the end of the year, Mingde Heavy Industry's backlog of stainless steel chemical tanker orders will rank first globally.
